North Texas Hillel opening new Jewish Student Center

On Sunday, August 14, North Texas Hillel will open a new Jewish Student Center in Denton to serve Jewish students at the University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University. The Hillel Alcove: Center for Jewish Campus Life will provide a place for students to meet, hold Shabbat services, and plan programs.

During academic semesters, the Hillel office will be open Monday-Wednesday from 9am to 5pm starting August 29. Carlie Dorshaw Moe has been the North Texas Hillel Director for the past year, and is very excited about this accomplishment. “This will help bring a lot of growth to Jewish life in Denton. Jewish students will have a place to call their own.”

The Hillel Alcove is located across from the UNT campus in a small retail space. This is the first office space of any kind for North Texas Hillel since it’s founding in 2000. The facility will be outfitted with sofas, TVs, and a fully stocked refrigerator. “This is so much more than just an office or a religious space,” Carlie said. “It will be a place for students to ‘hang out.’ Having this option will make it more likely for Jewish students to self-identify and meet one-another.”

The grand opening will take place at 11am on Sunday, August 14. The community is invited to a celebratory brunch. Please email info@northtexashillel.org if you plan to attend. The Center is located at 917 Avenue C, Denton, in the Carriage Square Shopping Center behind Super Cuts.
